Winter is one of the nicest times to visit Sussex Inlet.

The pace is a little slower, the beaches are quieter and the cooler days are perfect for getting outside and exploring the beautiful waterways and coastline around town.

Whether you're planning a romantic weekend for two or simply need a couple of days away from the everyday, here's how to make the most of a winter weekend in Sussex Inlet.

Friday: Arrive & Settle In

There's no need to pack too much into your first afternoon.

Arrive, unpack and settle into your accommodation before heading out to explore the local area.

If you're staying at Sussex View, take some time to enjoy the waterfront outlook from the balcony. If Sussex Gem is your home for the weekend, you're right in the heart of Sussex Inlet and close to everything you need.

As the afternoon rolls on, take a leisurely stroll along the foreshore and watch the boats and birdlife on the water.

Sussex Inlet's pelicans and black swans are regular visitors to the waterways, so keep an eye out as you wander.

Then it's time to head back, relax and enjoy a quiet evening.

Saturday Morning: Start Slowly

Winter mornings are made for taking your time.

There's no need to rush out the door. Enjoy breakfast, rug up and head out for some fresh air.

One of the best things about Sussex Inlet is how easy it is to combine a little activity with plenty of relaxation.

Head to Swan Lake and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. The calm water, surrounding bushland and resident black swans make it a beautiful spot to spend some time.

Don't forget your camera. The reflections on the lake can be particularly beautiful on a still morning.

Saturday Afternoon: Head to the Coast

After exploring the waterways, make your way towards the coast.

Cudmirrah Beach is a wonderful place for a winter walk. The long stretch of sand gives you plenty of room to wander, breathe in the fresh ocean air and enjoy the sound of the waves.

Winter can be particularly peaceful here, with fewer people on the beach and plenty of space to yourself.

If you're looking for something a little more adventurous, explore some of the other coastal areas around Sussex Inlet and Berrara.

Saturday Evening: Slow Down

One of the best parts of a weekend away is having nowhere else you need to be.

After a day exploring, head back to your accommodation, put your feet up and enjoy a relaxed evening.

Sussex View's waterfront setting makes it particularly lovely as the afternoon light changes across the inlet, while Sussex Gem provides a cosy base for a quiet night in.

Sometimes that's all a weekend away needs.

Sunday: One Last Wander

Before heading home, make the most of your final morning.

Take another walk along the water, visit one of the local beaches or simply find a quiet spot to sit and watch the world go by.

If you haven't already explored the Sussex Inlet foreshore, it's worth taking the time to see it properly.

Pelicans, black swans, boats and the ever-changing water make it an easy place to spend an hour without needing a particular plan.

Then it's time to head home feeling a little more relaxed than when you arrived.

Why Visit Sussex Inlet in Winter?

Summer isn't the only time to enjoy the South Coast.

Winter brings its own appeal:

  • Quieter beaches

  • Cooler temperatures for exploring

  • Peaceful waterways

  • Beautiful crisp mornings

  • Great conditions for coastal walks

  • Plenty of opportunities to spot local birdlife

  • A slower, more relaxed atmosphere

And if the weather isn't perfect, that's okay too. Sometimes a weekend away is about doing less, not more.

Make Sussex Inlet Your Next Weekend Escape

You don't need a packed itinerary to enjoy Sussex Inlet.

A couple of days by the water, some fresh coastal air and a little time away from your usual routine can be enough.

Sussex View and Sussex Gem provide comfortable bases for exploring the area and enjoying a slower South Coast weekend.

We'd love to welcome you.
